PATA Programmes - Mobile Technology

One to One Children's Fund in partnership with Small Projects Foundation, a technology partner and PATA will be launching a mobile technology (mHealth) project at three clinics in the Eastern Cape.

The pilot project will focus on developing the links between community health care workers and their clinics by focussing on the following two areas:

  1. Improving the coordination of community based health services
  2. Collecting timely quantitative data, accessible to relevant HIV/AIDS stakeholders

PATA Expert Patients form a subset of a growing network of Community Health Workers (CHWs) who represent a sustainable solution to the issue of chronic medical staff shortages in public health sector in sub-Saharan Africa. CHWs play a crucial role in the support and delivery of services. However, support, supervision and both financial and non-financial incentives are needed, if they are to carry out their work effectively. This includes efforts to reduce their travel costs and improve communication from clinic to community so that they can reach more patients where and when they are needed.

As members of the community, this group are excellently placed to collect vital HIV+ patient statistics, enabling not only their affiliated clinic to both manage their patients and measure the work of these health workers, but enables other key HIV/AIDS stakeholders to accurately track the disease.

If your clinic is interested in the programme or would like to tell us about you mHealth initiatives please contact PATA at info@teampata.org.
