In December 2025, a major peer-reviewed article co-authored by PATA was published in the journal AIDS Care.

Based on data from 617 frontline healthcare providers across 12 African countries, the study examines mental health and workplace wellbeing among those delivering HIV services to children, adolescents and their families. The findings reveal that many providers experience high levels of stress and depressive symptoms, with the greatest burden seen among younger providers and peer supporters. The article highlights how workplace conditions, workload and lack of systemic support directly affect provider wellbeing — and ultimately the quality and sustainability of care.

Together, the findings underscore an urgent need for system-level action to better support the frontline workforce at the heart of the paediatric and adolescent HIV response.
