What a CATS-Community Adherence Treatment Supporter had to say about Monica Mutundo
I feel she is qualified to be nominated. She is different from others in a way other health care workers don’t qualify. Adherence is the important thing that she talks about every day with me, and she always encourages me when it comes to living positively. With her around, I feel so open and safe at the health facility. She makes me fit in with the environment so well.
Furthermore, she is the adolescent focal point person who makes sure that we adolescents are in good health and have suppressed viral loads, encouraging us to join support groups and referring us to various departments to access services. She has also helped adolescents living with HIV to deal with stigma and discrimination. She makes sure all adolescents living with HIV are fast-tracked during our drug refill appointments. This has helped me because I don’t have to queue up for long hours during my drug refill appointments. She also involves me in a lot of activities happening at the health facility. Lastly, she has helped me realize and understand that I can be whoever I want to be in life regardless of my HIV status. This means a lot to me. And she is my mentor.
