I'm Ready for Choice: Transforming HIV Prevention Across Africa 

The HIV prevention landscape is evolving, and for children, adolescents, young people, and underserved communities, this shift represents a new era of autonomy. As South Africa becomes the ninth African nation to roll out Lenacapavir (LEN) this June 5, 2026, we celebrate the rapid, continent-wide momentum of this groundbreaking prevention tool and our ongoing commitment to #Prevention4All. 

Prevention: Protecting Futures 

Ending the HIV epidemic requires more than just new technology; it needs a radical commitment to choice-based prevention. PATA advocates for integrated, youth-friendly, and gender-transformative services that ensure that high-quality prevention tools, such as long-acting injectables and oral PrEP, are accessible to everyone, everywhere.  

Our Call to Action: 

• Governments must embed choice-based HIV prevention, including long-acting options where available, into maternal and child health services, with a dedicated focus on sustained prevention for pregnant and breastfeeding women 
• National programmes must fast-track the funding and rollout of long-acting prevention and PrEP to reach vulnerable populations without delay 
• Countries must invest in differentiated prevention strategies designed with and for young people — reflecting the diverse lived experiences and needs of our communities.

Prevention tools must reach underserved groups, not just urban or well-resourced communities. Across the continent, our frontline champions; including our Youth Advocates (YAP) and Health Advocates (HAP); are stepping up to show what choice looks like in practice. While LEN is a breakthrough, we know that new medicines alone do not stop epidemics. Health systems, political choices, and sustained funding determine whether these tools reach those who need them most.
