Lessons from Parents Living with HIV on How to Promote Advocacy for Their Children Who Are HIV-Exposed Uninfected to Achieve Their Fullest Potential

Poster at International Workshop on HIV & Paediatrics 2023

This poster presentation delves into the unique challenges faced by parents of children who are HIV-exposed uninfected (HEU) and explored their understanding of child development. With nearly 16 million children globally exposed to HIV but not infected perinatally, this population is at higher risk of adverse health outcomes, including neurodevelopmental delays. The study utilized semi-structured interviews to assess parents’ comfort and knowledge in evaluating their child’s development and their experiences engaging with healthcare providers regarding developmental concerns. The findings highlight the importance of tailored communication to promote awareness and support for this vulnerable population.
