Clinic-CBO Collaboration (C3) Programme Linking health facilities and communities for improved PMTCT and paediatric HIV outcomes

“The super-fast-track framework, Sustainable Development Goals and global guidance on Universal Test and Treat (UTT) require unprecedented rapid scale-up and implementation of new ways of delivering HIV treatment, care and support services.

Although most major donors and development partners promote community engagement as an effective strategy in the HIV response, especially in the context of differentiated service delivery, limited technical guidance and insufficient funding to support this has materialised on the ground.

Health systems operating in isolation will not succeed in reaching and sustaining record numbers of pregnant women, children and adolescents in care.

Clinics must partner with communities and community-based organisations (CBOs) to sensitise communities, link families into care, combat stigma and discrimination, monitor service quality and build stronger local health systems.”
