Decentralising healthcare provider technical assistance in adolescent HIV care, treatment and support
Frontline healthcare providers are the backbone
of the HIV response — yet across the continent, many are overstretched, under-supported, and face declining resources to sustain quality HIV care.
Between 2021 and 2022, resources for low- and middle-income countries’ HIV programming dropped by 2.6%, and funding to keep healthcare providers engaged, empowered, and motivated also declined.
At the same time, global priorities are shifting towards building on existing gains, increasing reach, and sustaining the HIV response. This has created an urgent need for locally-led models of mentoring and support that strengthen healthcare provider capacity and ensure lasting, high-quality care within health systems.
