Key Lessons from Peer-Led Facility Safe Spaces for Adolescents and Young People Living with HIV in Bulawayo Zimbabwe

There are significant gaps in HIV care and support programmes for adolescents and young people. Factors such as mental health and health related behaviours play an important role in hindering adolescents from disclosing their HIV status, adhering to treatment, and staying engaged in care. To effectively tackle these challenges, creating well-structured peer-led safe spaces specifically designed to meet the needs of adolescents and young people living with HIV is critical. These spaces cater to adolescents’ developmental needs, are culturally sensitive, and are led by their peers. This approach strengthens support systems, by creating an environment where adolescents feel understood, supported, and empowered to manage their HIV status more effectively.
