Module: Providing disclosure counselling and support

Learning Objectives

After completing this module, participants will be able to:

• Apply a developmental approach to the process of disclosure preparation
• Understand the reasons to disclose to children and young adolescents
• Discuss common barriers that health workers and caregivers have to disclosure and possible
solutions for each
• Work with caregivers to understand the importance of disclosure and to prepare for and
move through the disclosure process with children and adolescents
• Work through the disclosure process with children and young adolescents
• Provide counseling and support to adolescents on disclosing their HIV-status to others
